How to Search Dallas Felony Records
You have a few different ways to look up Dallas felony records. Each method has its own strengths depending on what you need and how much detail you want.
The Dallas County Criminal Case Record portal at dallascounty.org/services/record-search is the first stop for court case searches. It is free and covers felony cases from 1975 to the present. Use it when you know the person's full name or have a cause number. The portal shows charges, case events, and current status for each case it returns.
For a broader statewide search, re:SearchTX is maintained by the Texas Office of Court Administration and covers participating district courts across Texas, including Dallas County. It is useful when a person may have cases in multiple counties. You can search by name and see all matching cases statewide in a single result set.
For certified copies of case documents, contact the District Clerk directly at (214) 712-3088 or email DCRecordsCriminal@dallascounty.org. Requests can be handled in person or by mail. Certified copies carry a per-page fee plus a certification charge. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Dallas Police Department Records
The Dallas Police Department's Open Records Unit handles public information requests for police incident reports, arrest records, and related documents. DPD records are different from court records. They reflect what police documented during an incident or arrest, not the outcome of any criminal case in court.

To request a police record, you can submit a public information request under Texas Government Code Chapter 552. The department is required to respond within 10 business days. Incident reports for closed cases are routinely available. Reports for open investigations may be withheld in part or full depending on the status of the case. The DPD website also has an online records request form for routine requests.
Texas Criminal Record Resources for Dallas
If you need to check criminal history beyond what the Dallas County portal shows, several Texas statewide databases are available and free to access for basic information.
The Texas DPS Crime Records Service is the main repository for criminal history across the state. It receives data from law enforcement and courts statewide, so its records extend beyond what any county court portal shows. The DPS offers both free public access searches and paid certified reports depending on your need.
The TDCJ Offender Search is the right tool when you need to check on someone who was sentenced to state prison. It shows current status, unit location, and projected release dates. It does not include people held in county jails or those whose sentences were fully discharged.
For registered sex offenders in Dallas, the Texas Sex Offender Registry managed by Texas DPS shows current registrants by name or address. The registry is searchable online at no cost and is updated as registrations change.
