Bexar County District Clerk - San Antonio Felony Records

The Bexar County District Clerk is the official custodian of felony court records in San Antonio. All felony indictments, plea agreements, trial verdicts, and final judgments are filed with this office. The District Clerk maintains both active and closed case files going back many years. For most people, the online search portal is the easiest way to access basic case information without making a trip to the courthouse.

The main criminal filing location is the Paul Elizondo Tower. That is where felony cases are initiated and where most records can be accessed in person. If you need a certified copy of a judgment, a case disposition letter, or any other official document, you will need to contact the District Clerk's office directly. Copies are available for a per-page fee, and certified copies carry an additional certification fee.

The Bexar County online search portal is available at search.bexar.org. The portal lets you search by party name or case number and returns charge descriptions, case status, and docket history. It covers both felony and misdemeanor cases filed in Bexar County courts. Access is free and does not require registration.

The screenshot below shows the Texas DPS re:SearchTX portal, a statewide tool that also covers Bexar County criminal cases including San Antonio felony filings.

re:SearchTX portal showing statewide Texas criminal case search including Bexar County San Antonio felony records

This statewide portal is a useful backup when the county-level search does not return results you expect.

Note: The online search shows public case data only. Sealed records, expunged cases, and non-disclosure orders are not visible in the public portal.

For people arrested in San Antonio very recently, the Bexar County Central Magistrate maintains a free online search. This tool covers arrests within roughly the last 24 hours and shows basic booking information. It is separate from the District Clerk's court records portal, which covers cases that have already been filed in court.

Jail Central Records (210) 335-6201
Jail Nightly Reports Available through Bexar County Sheriff's Office

The Bexar County Jail also publishes nightly arrest reports. These reports list people who were booked at the jail the prior night. They typically include name, date of birth, charges listed at booking, and bond information. Keep in mind that charges listed at booking may differ from what the District Attorney ultimately files in court.

For older or closed cases, the District Clerk's public case search is the right tool. For very recent arrests, the Central Magistrate search and jail reports are better sources. Combining both gives you coverage across all time frames.

San Antonio Police Department Records

The San Antonio Police Department handles public records requests for police incident reports and arrest records through its Records Division. SAPD records are separate from the court records held by the Bexar County District Clerk. Police records reflect what officers documented in the field, while court records cover what happened after charges were filed.

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 gives the public the right to request government records. SAPD will respond to public information requests within 10 business days. Some records may be withheld if they relate to open investigations or contain information protected by other laws. Basic incident report requests are typically fulfilled without issue for closed cases.

Texas Statewide Criminal Record Tools

In addition to the Bexar County resources, several statewide tools can help you find criminal records tied to San Antonio cases or individuals who may have records in multiple Texas counties.

The Texas DPS Crime Records Service compiles criminal history from law enforcement agencies across the state. It is the most complete source for Texas criminal history because it includes data from all counties, not just Bexar. You can request a name-based search online. The fee for a certified criminal history report is set by statute, and basic searches are available free for certain purposes.

The TDCJ Offender Search lets you look up people who are currently incarcerated or recently released from Texas state prison. It does not cover county jail inmates. If you know someone was sentenced to state prison, this tool can show their current custody status, unit assignment, and projected release date.

The re:SearchTX portal from the Texas Office of Court Administration covers district courts statewide, including Bexar County. It is free and requires no account. Results include docket entries, case status, and court orders. It is especially useful when searching for someone who may have criminal cases in both Bexar and other Texas counties.
