What El Paso County Felony Records Contain

A felony record in El Paso County is the official court file for a criminal case. It starts when the state files a charge and ends when the case closes, either through dismissal, plea, or verdict. Every step of that process creates a new document that goes into the file.

Felony records in El Paso County typically include the original indictment or information, which states the charge and the facts supporting it. The file also shows all motions filed by both sides, any plea agreement, and the final judgment. If the person was convicted, the judgment shows the sentence, including prison time, probation terms, fines, and restitution orders. If there was an appeal, that information appears as well.

Most felony case records in El Paso County are public. Anyone can request them without needing to explain why. There are some exceptions. Juvenile records are sealed. Certain records related to victims of sexual assault or family violence may be restricted. Expunged records are not public. If a record has been expunged, the Clerk cannot confirm it exists.
